The undulating region we are traveling through is an hour’s drive from Brussels. It is a many faceted land, with some panoramic views, green valleys, fields, undergrowth with varied flora and fauna, grassy meadows and luminous woods with broad-leaved trees. The Samson is a river with trouts, whose slope is one of the steepest in Belgium, and which runs northward through a valley studded with caves. Some of them are listed and considered as part of our prehistoric heritage.
The rides also traverse villages which are among the most beautiful of the Walloon region : they are renowned for their ubiquitous use of limestone and sandstone. A few dozens of castles, mansions and chapels are scattered in the countryside. A lovely village in the wilds of the forest, where a river still runs right across the main street and a castle from the Arabian Nights are other unusual sights in the region.
One more odd thing is that some of our rides offer a unique opportunity to discover a series of original works of art («la fête de mai») laid out in the woods, valleys or along streams. They have been carried out by artists from all over the world, with the active involvement of the region’s inhabitants. In total, 29 works are linked together by a 50 Km-long path.
